NEW ADVENTURE AHOY!
But not for Asha. Tabby’s feeling a bit overprotective after her adopted daughter got into a rooftop chase and somehow managed to beat a Canid assassin by bringing her noggin to a knife fight. So it looks like Asha’s sitting this next one out — but she’ll return in the future, don’t you worry!
Sorry, Asha! Yes, sadly Song of the Eastern Sands is but a mere few weeks from completion. But that just means Chapter 3 draws ever-closer, and believe me when I say that right off the bat, Chapter 3 introduces some fun new characters and concepts that I think you’ll all love.
Anyway, I know that most readers aren’t in the Hartford area, but IF YOU ARE, I highly recommend coming to Hartford ComiConn next week and checking out our table in Artist Alley, table 101!
We also just got our seating assignment for New York Comic Con: F5! We’ll put up a proper map when NYCC rolls around in place of a page that week.
For guest art this week, I wanted to make sure Jerijune’s amazing guest-art efforts from the last couple weeks were not lost!
First, in honor of my visit to the Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle, Jeri did this fun version that replaced the fishmongers with Lutren!
For those who don’t know, Pike Place Fish Market is famous for a little act involving the fishmongers tossing very large fish between themselves at high velocities. I didn’t get a picture of it, but there’s a lot of other people’s out there :)
Second, in response to the wonderful guest art last week, Jeri also drew a follow-up picture of Quin and Dakkan rocking out a sweet duet!
As I mentioned last week, Quin is fairly decent at the penny whistle, and Dak plays fiddle. I’m 100% positive they’d played duets together throughout the years. I’d love to include it in the comic somewhere, somehow, but it’s hard to work this kind of music into a visual medium like Western Deep. We’ll see!

I dont know much since I cant see the page but by the looks of it, I guess Asha’s going to get pulled back. Its too bad though, I liked that little head butting ermehn. But yay for chapter 3! Cant wait for it to come out. For Alex though, dont take this post as a rush letter, take your time on it. Hope you guys have a great day :)
Btw, Asha looks so excited by it but then getting shut down by mommy Tabby made her sort of lose her face of excitement. She looked so happy after hearing it too.

Oh, come on, Tabby! This isn’t any more dangerous than sending your daughter out to do regular thieving, which always carries a small risk of death, and a larger risk of getting caught and losing your hands.
And I’m sure that the muscle and face aren’t going to need the sneaky lockpicker at all. How much would everyone like to bet that Asha’s absence makes at least a few parts of their mission much harder down the line? Not to mention that the Sand Spiders aren’t going to feel quite right to us readers without the final member of their trio to participate in the fun.
No doubt Asha will contest this decision, but Tabby is the mother here. Her opinions are not likely to be swayed.
I suppose Asha could always try sneaking out of the tavern tonight if she really wants to go . . .
Maybe she just runs away. Doesn’t seem too unlikely. Theo doesn’t seem too upset over the fact that Asha’s not going to go.
Btw I like her outfit, it looks like she’s wearing some sort of workout outfit.
Tabby, let her go with her thieving friends! She’s old enough for those kinds of things! But then again, there’s the assassination attempt, so….
OK, I’m concerned for Asha, but at the same time I want her to go. Rook can take care of her. I have a feeling he’s the “big brother” of the group. I’ll side with Theo on this one. All in favor of letting her go with her friends, say “aye!”
(Oh, and one little tidbit– I always read Beck’s lines in Peridot’s voice. I can already hear her calling Rook a clod…)
Please tell me that is a row of fezes behind Beck and Rook, and that a fez-placing shelf is a thing in their town.
I’m pretty sure those are just clay pots. Either that or Theo has a bangin’ fez collection.

Alright, it’s a major bummer that Asha wont be going on Operation Rescue Janik. However this brings me to hope that we’ll get to see the Sand Spiders making an appearance in the next chapter.
Speaking of Chapter 3, oh I’ll bet that it’s gonna have some “fun” and “exciting” new characters alright. We cant wait to see “Death Judge #1” “Rowdy Woof Jury #2” and I cant forget ol lovable big hearted “Executioner #3”. Real talk though, I’m not ready for Chapter 3 yet. I was seriously hoping Eastern Sands would go on for a bit longer. But I digress, It’s gonna be a roller coaster ride from here on out.

I wonder how these characters will intersect with BtWD in the future. I’d love to see Rachel’s take on the characters.
We’ve already seen Rachel’s Beck. I was particularly looking forward to seeing her take on Asha, but it looks like I’ll have to wait a while longer.

Why did I write this? I don’t have a good answer. I hope you all enjoy it regardless, while I go home and re-think my life.
So it took me a minute or two to figure out what tune this was set to (Youtube goes abysmally slow where I am). An excellent choice! I feel like other appropriate choices would be “Spiders in the Hot Sand (Spider Power!)” and “Hey, Janik!”
….So Does Rowan die while they run north to get Janik, or? I guess we’ll find out, but I’m not very sure of his survival prospects. Or maybe he signs onto a Polcan ship.
As much as I love Tabby, is keeping Asha in the same city where the assassins are going to be looking for you to murder you to death a good idea? (no, it’s not) It’s a bit weird to see Asha sporting an outfit that looks Vulpin in nature- I wonder which of the two styles of dress, if either, she prefers. Although I’m sure Janik and Beck and Rook can handle themselves quite well, they need a Rogue to round out the party.
Guys, guys. Let’s be honest here. Does anyone actually think for a minute Asha’s going to stay behind while all her friends go off on a rollicking, high-stakes, hijinks-filled adventure? Because that just ain’t happening, Tabs or no.
I predict some bedsheet rope in Asha’s near future! And probably a late night farewell to Theo who totally saw it coming.
That, or they’ve been tracked back to the hideout, the place is burned down, Tabs is killed, and the four of them set out because now it’s personal. :(((
True we all don’t know if they been tracked back and the assassin’s want payback for what they’s guys down but we will have to wait until the deciding to go save Janik or who knows what will happen.
I’m going to refer to her as “Tabs” from now on.
And good point about them being tracked back to the tavern, I hadn’t thought about that. After all, the assassins were killed, but Theo’s mysterious source is still out there, and probably knows where the Sand Spiders are based.
Tabs is definitely now at risk. Though we shouldn’t forget that Theo has an injured leg, so if some angry Canid decide to set fire to the place, he’s the one less likely to make it out (ignoring for the moment his greater dramatic role in the piece).
Will is the thought it counts. but it will be a surprise if he found a way out
A very good point! I actually forgot about Theo’s injury. All else being equal, he would seem the more likely of the two to not make it out. Maybe he’ll be off at the fez shop at the time.
