CHOMP! Looks like the lutren still have somebody looking out for them, after all! Or it could just be the polcan ships have a particular look to them from underwater that looks particularly enticing to these giant whale creatures. That’s the nice thing about myth: it supplies answers to questions without necessarily answering them.

The narration here is a distillation of the standard structure and reasoning behind mythology, which the felis scholars in particular would ascribe to in rationalizing how mythology fits into their view of the world. All myths exist for a reason, all myths try to answer questions, and all myths adhere to some form of storytelling. They’re not just rote fact, there’s a cause and effect, an arc. It’s why long after the questions myths may have posed were answered by science that we still tell them and share them.

And why I wanted to write about them in this Beyond the Western Deep side story :)

Also, I just adore the variety of O_O expressions on the crew’s face at the top of the page. Jayelle really did a marvelous job there. Also also, the Moby Dick-inspired Seawal attack on the polcan ship is perfectly awesome and adds another giant scary creature into the pantheon of giant scary creatures inhabiting Dunia!

And remember, if you have any Western Deep-related artwork you’d like to share with the community, send it over to us at THEWESTERNDEEP(at)GMAIL(dot)COM! (Don’t forget the “the”!)

See you all next week!
