You could definitely argue that Rathik’s had this WHOK coming to him for a very long time. Everyone in the Sratha-din tried to defuse the situation, but the big guy’s inability to take a hint (or rather, to accept a hint was given and still ignore it) has led him down this new, very unfortunate path.

It’s a path that leads to getting WHOK‘D in the head by Rhosyn’s crossbow.

It’s not a very good path.

Rhosyn has never been in the business of suffering fools, but unlike Ashtor’s generally diplomatic means of talking his way out of situations (except that one time where he floored Hardin–but that’s how you know he’s still an ermehn from the Wastes) our crossbow-wielding Sratha-din is more the “hit first, ask questions later” type. I mean, we saw it in her reaction to Quinlan in Chapter 2:

Just an immediate “whoops, stop moving please” crossbow bolt to the shoulder there. In this case, Rathik was already on thin ice with Rhosyn, so the big lug going after Eira’s notebook is quite the escalation by her estimation. It’s okay for Rathik to threaten Hardin or any of the other Sratha-din, but Eira is off limits.

Speaking of Eira, here’s a wonderful piece of guest art by reader and community member E_Out featuring Eira and Bevan!

Looks like Bevan’s gotten his hands on a mandolin of some kind! I’d never really imagined Bevan as the musical type, but I have to imagine that his learned dexterity with regard to knife-throwing must have some kind of practical translation to at least a slight edge in being able to learn how to play an instrument like the mandolin?

Eira looks like she’s tolerating Bevan’s attempts to serenade her. Even if he’s terrible at it, I imagine Bevan has the charm factor turned up to 11 right now, so maybe it doesn’t even matter.

Thank you so much for the wonderful piece, E_Out! We absolutely love it :)
