That’s right, Rachel and I will be at SAN DIEGO COMIC CON next week! Artists’ Alley, Table DD-20!

This is actually going to be my very first San Diego Comic Con, and the first convention Rachel and I have tabled since New York Comic Con back in 2016. After that convention we started considering the split from our publisher, which tied things up a bit for all of 2017, and we spent all of 2018 figuring out what our next steps were going to be with the property–culminating in our successful Kickstarted first volume, which will be making its sort-of public debut at SDCC!

In terms of what we’ll have available for sale, we’ll have:

  • Both standard and limited edition versions of the Kickstarted Volume One hardcover
  • The Quinlan/Dakkan enamel pins
  • Signed bookplate stickers
  • The Firedancer print
  • The Lutren Shark Hunter print
  • Our brand new Quinlan/Dakkan vinyl sticker

Funny story–between the printer and Make That Thing, a large quantity of our limited edition hardcover book covers were scuffed in transit. Nothing we’ll be selling at this particular show, don’t worry–but basically they’re in a condition where we’re not comfortable selling these versions at full price. Sooner or later, we’re going to introduce these “battle-damaged” limited editions at a discount at shows.

To compensate us for the loss (though not quite to the extent of a full reprint), the printer offered to do up some dust jackets that look identical to the limited edition cover, to help mask the imperfections brought on by the scuffage. Rachel, true to form, wasn’t comfortable just making a duplicate cover. She added some fun little accents to it that every future limited edition Volume One hardcover purchaser can appreciate:

Quin and Hardin are hanging out in the inside flaps thanks to some cool spot gloss trickery! Amazing work, Rachel :)

We also added the original back-of-the-book flavor text that you see on the standard hardcover to the inside flap as well.

These weren’t a planned addition for us, but instead a recommendation by the printer to cover their shipping error. I’m not 100% sold on the idea of having dust jackets on future volumes, but I’ll admit Rachel’s take on them here definitely has me thinking it might be worth it. Definitely sound off in the comments if you think Volume 2’s limited edition should have a similar dust jacket!

Also, I’ve received a few questions about our community Discord. If you’re interested in joining the Western Deep community, please drop a line at hello@westerndeep.net and let us know.

We’re not giving out a mass invite or anything, but we think fans of the work should be able to freely chat with fellow readers and the creators!

We’re not going to be uploading a page next week (expect another SDCC map image re-upload!), because Rachel and I will be busy wrangling San Diego Comic Con by the horns. But look for us the week after for the continuing misadventures of Cain and Yurk!
